A Colored Petri Net Model for Connection Management Services in MMS

AbstractThis paper presents a Petri net (PN) model for Connection Management
Services (CMS) of the Manufacturing Message Specification (MMS) which describes al l
possible sequences of service primitives that can occur during establishment, maintenance
and termination of the connection and their relation at each service state . The PN mode l
enables a complete and unambiguous specification to be derived for CMS . P-invariants an d
T-invariants analysis carried out on the connection PN provides useful information on th e
CMS behavior and specification for its implementation . It is claimed that PNs may offer a
hierarchical mathematical description for the entire MMS protocol, a uniform representatio n
for various level of abstraction of MMS protocol and an analytical model for protoco l
performance evaluation and analysis .
