Surface remeshing with robust user-guided segmentation

Abstract
Surface remeshing is heavily required
in modeling, animation, simulation and many other
computer graphics applications. Improving the
elements quality is a challenging task in surface
remeshing. Existing methods often fail to eciently
remove bad-shaped elements especially in regions
with sharp features. In this paper, we proposed a
robust segmentation method followed by remeshing the
segmented mesh. Mesh segmentation is initiated with
an existing live-wire interaction which is further re ned
with local mesh operations. The re ned segmented
mesh is nally sent to remeshing pipeline, where
each mesh segment is remeshed independently. In
experimental study, we compared the results of mesh
segmentation as well as remeshing with representative
existing methods. We demonstrate that the proposed
segmentation method is more robust and optimal for
remeshing.
