英文摘要 | Urban transportation systems have a close relationship with the urban development and provide an irreplaceable support for the evolution of civilization. In recent years, the acceleration of urbanization and concentration of population increase the pressure on urban transportation systems. Traditional ways to release traffic pressure, such as expansion of road capacity and addition of new road, can not satisfy the requirement of city development for their high payments. This predicament leads to the ever-worsening traffic congestion problem. Hence, in order to ease the contradiction between increasing travel requirement and limited traffic resource, governments pay attention to the improvement of efficiency about the utilization of existed traffic facilities. The emergence and rapid growth of Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) has drawn the attention of governments. By the integration of advanced technologies, like information technology, communication technology, sensing technology, control technology and computer technology, ITS establish one real-time, accurate and efficient kind of traffic management systems. These systems can widely ameliorate our traffic environment in all domains.As one important part of ITS, urban traffic control systems focus on improving its perception and reaction ability to the complex and dynamic urban traffic environment. They aim to improve the transportation efficiency, ease traffic congestion and environmental pollution, reduce traffic accident and energy depletion. Hence, traffic control systems try to get help from many emerging technologies to satisfy increasing traffic travel requirement. With the coming of the Internet of things, networked devices in different spatial-temporal space can share data resource and computing ability. This way can improve perception and reaction ability of the whole control system to diverse environment and complete the leap from single-point control to coordinated control. Meanwhile, as one achievement of Artificial intelligence (AI), agent technology found a diverse range of applications, such as industrial applications, commercial applications, entertainment applications and medical applications. Being one important branch of distributed AI, the multi-agent systems are expert in using the high degree of autonomy in sub-systems to handle the variety of dynamics in environment.
