Decision Support System is the new stage of computer information system. It's the combination of the computer science, management science, system control theory and behavior science It is considered as the mainstream of computer information system. Intelligent Decision Support System is the next generation of DSS, which has splendid future. There have been some software companies abroad focusing on DSS and IDSS, their commercial success shows the prospective of DSS and IDSS. In our country, the theoretic research on DSS and IDSS are exciting while practical development of DSS is not so active. The developing efficiency, robustness, human-machine interface of our DSS are not satisfactory. In essence, DSS is a large scale application software. So the development method and human-machine interface of DSS should comply with software engineering methodology and general principle of interactive software system. DSS is applied to half-structured or unstructured problem, which have uncertain factor(s); at the same time, DSS is used to service for advanced managers, who usually do not have sufficient experience on complex sol, ware. Due to these two facts, the human-machine interface of DSS and IDSS should be extremely friendly and have certain heuristic ability. This paper is based on our cooperation work with a French software company called FuturMaster on developing a Microsoft Windows version DSS. My part of work focused on human-machine interface. In this paper, I describe the general definition, function and structure of DSS, also I point out the difference of 19SS and EDP or MIS. In chapter 2, I describe decision procedure briefly and introduce some well-known decision models and mathematics models used in DSS. tn chapter 3, after careful analysis of the DSS structure, I find the following key techniques in DSS should be solved : database and DBMS, model base and MBMS, the interface between database, modelbase and human-machine interface. Then is the major part of this article.In chapter 4,the general principles of DSS human-machine interface are stated.The author points out that thd human-machine interface should comply to the general principle and the function should be user-oriented.I applied the objected-oriented principle and software engineering methodology to our practical work.The French company is satisfied with our results. Chapter 5 described our interface of MS Windows 95 version FuturMaster DSS. With the development of Artificial Intelligence,Intelligent Decision Support System(IDSS) hass been put forward.Contrasted with the human computer interface in DSS,the counterpart in IDSS should be more friendly and intelligently.The last chapter of this paper make some discussion on this topic.The author put forward two kinds of knowledge-based interfaces.
