The boom development and comprehensive application of wireless network technology brings the research of wireless ad-hoc networks into a new stage. As one of the most important components of ad-hoc network research, the research of routing protocols for wireless ad-hoc network has attracted extensive attention. Many researchers have proposed a variety of drafts for routing protocols, such as DSR, AODV, and TORA. But to date, there has been no commercial protocol module that supports practical applications. Arising from the requisition of the project, the author attempts to implement a routing protocol module for wireless ad-hoc networks, and to establish a research and testing platform for wireless ad-hoc networks. In this paper, AODV routing protocol is adopted after analyzing and comparing existing routing protocols for ad-hoc networks, most functions of which are implemented in accordance with the RFC3561 on the Windows XP operating system, and a communication and testing platform is built for sensor networks applications. Our research is mainly composed of the following aspects: 1.According to extensive analysis of main routing protocols for wireless ad-hoc networks, the AODV routing protocol is adopted. 2.Detailed research is carried out on RFC3561, based on which AODV routing protocol is implemented. 3.Several necessary improvements against multimedia applications are made to the AODV routing protocol. 4.Analyze and design the video transmission module for the Cyber-Frontier System. 5.Implement the testing platform, and carry out application testing on the AODV routing protocol. The results of stress testing indicate that, the system is capable of achieving 4 or 5 hops communication fluently with the wireless network devices in normal condition.
