Today three-dimensional medical visualization technique has been widely used in the fields of medical diagnosis, research and teaching. This thesis presents my research and application work in the fields of medical image segmentation and three-dimensional interactive rendering. The thesis consists of six sections. Section one gives a brief introduction on medical image visualization. In section 2, a practical three-dimensional diagnosis system is presented. Then after a brief summary of the medical image segmentation methods, we present a new algorithm based on Gaussian-Mixture model, which is successfully applied in segmenting the tumor from the MR image. The rest three sections, the main part of the thesis, deal with the interactive display of complex medical graphics in the virtual endoscopy system. Based on analysis of the characters of the anatomical structure of the tubal human organs, we present our new View-Dependent Progressive Meshes, which makes possible the implementation of virtual endoscopy on the PC platform.
