During recent years, there has been great progress on algorithm of automated fingerprint identification. Also more and more high-tech companies are now working on products of automated fingerprint identification. This paper mainly discusses about our design and application of automated fingerprint identification algorithm on embedded system. In this paper, we introduced an algorithm that was developed by AI Lab, Institute of Automation, CAS. It is an efficient algorithm, suitable for running on embedded system. We use TMS320 C54x DSP chip as the CPU of the embedded system. Then we discussed the hardware system designing, mainly about the interface part of the embedded module. As we develop the module for networking circumstance, the communication protocol is the major part of this paper, including the data link layer and the network layer, discussed in chapter 4. We also optimized the algorithm for C54x DSP chip, making the module finish processing a fingerprint image in about 0.7s, discussed in chapter 5. The embedded system was full tested and ran well. It has been integrated in other system.
